We`re looking for a User Experience Designer who can design highly usable, elegant interfaces to help build Knewton`s revolutionary product that personalizes education for each individual student. As a User Experience Designer, you will be involved in every aspect of the product development process, from brainstorming new features to working alongside developers, tweaking pixels in production. You`ll utilize your full range of product design, interaction design, and visual design skills, and you will own the user experience for a wide area of the Knewton product.
Responsibilities
Partner with product managers, software developers, content experts, and other stakeholders to oversee the user experience of a product
Strive to learn everything possible about our end-users` behaviors, attitudes, and emotions to help define their experience
Take broad, conceptual ideas and turn them into useful features used by Knewton end-users
Design flows and experiences that are incredibly simple and elegant
Contribute to high-level strategic decisions with the rest of the product team
Develop concept models, site maps, sketches, and working prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas
Gauge the usability of new and existing products, and make constructive suggestions for change
Perform research and user testing, and apply best practices in user experience
Provide and solicit constructive feedback to continually raise the bar for product quality
Coach and mentor other design colleagues
Requirements
Experience working at or closely with startups--you thrive in, and seek to create, a fast-paced, highly fluid product development process
Critical thinking, a good design sense, a strong technical background, and an ability to make products better
Seamless collaboration cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, content experts, and others to ensure a smooth product development process
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to clearly articulate your design decisions
The ability to think at a high level about product strategy and vision (not just how it should look but what it should do and what we should build)
Qualifications
Minimum BA/BS degree in Computer Science, HCI, or related field
MS degree in Computer Science, HCI, or related field a plus
5+ years of relevant work experience, including demonstrated experience in designing usable web-based consumer products
Expert HTML skills
Knowledge of JavaScript for rapid prototyping purposes
Strong, clean design sense
Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
